Having a Great Time at Stephenson House Children's Home

February 25, 2023

The weather in winter can be dismal and cold, but at Stephenson House, we like to provide a little Hygge in our home, where the atmosphere is warm, friendly, and relaxing. It doesn’t matter what’s happening outside, there's a happy cosy feel indoors. We also like excitement too and having a great time is something we do well.

So what’s been happening at Stephenson House recently?

February has seen the children spend a lot of time chilling, meeting friends in the community, catching up with family and of course, enjoying half term. Valentine’s provided the perfect opportunity to show kindness and love to those who are dear. We also got to make and enjoy some lovely pancakes. Some of our young chefs showed promising flipping skills and to our relief didn’t get any on the ceiling or floor!

Cleaning cars proved popular; we had a very important message from one of our young participants, he would like to inform you that:

“You might not ever get rich, but let me tell ya it’s better than digging a ditch …….. At the car wash, yeah.”

A fantastic job was done by all that took part.

Celebrating Special Days in March

St David's Day

Now we get to the really exciting bit; there are lots going on in March. First on the list is St David’s Day on the 1st of March. Some of us will be indulging in Welsh traditional food, including Welsh Cakes, Bara Brith, and Welsh Rarebit, plus doing a bit of Daffodil spotting. There’s also Mother’s Day to look forward to, which provides the perfect opportunity to acknowledge all the wonderful women in the world.

St Patricks's Day Celebration

St Patrick's Day on the 17th of March is going to be fun. Green is the colour of the day, the children get to eat as many greens as they wish, Dublin Coddle will also be on the menu with a side of soda bread and some potatoes. Barmbrack is for pudding and after all that food, lots of walks, hoping the luck of the Irish has rubbed off on us and we can find that pot of gold

Let’s not forget after all this excitement that we are very close to ALTON TOWERS and some of us in the home love a good roller coaster ride, so prepare yourself for lots of photos on rollercoasters and queuing!

Stephenson House is just one of many lovely homes provided by First Blue Healthcare for children and young people who require residential care. You can find out more about our children’s homes here.
